By the onset of the 21st century, Asia had become home to two-thirds of the world's poor―nearly a billion people surviving on less than US$1 a day. For ADB, fighting poverty in the region has become its biggest challenge. This short video looks at the plight of Asia's poor and introduces ADB's Poverty Reduction Strategy, a major policy shift in 1999 that officially adopted poverty reduction as the organization's overarching goal.
